The question of adopting the honor system in examinations in the Yale Law School, which was brought up by the students early in the year, and which has been discussed at several meetings of the students and Faculty of the School, was finally settled negatively by the Faculty at a meeting May 28. There was con- siderable opposition to the plan and it was judged best to continue the old one, for the present at least. GEORGE D. PETTEE, YALE ’87. A misunderstanding has prevailed in regard to the action of the Faculty on the subject of fence orations. The Faculty, at a recent meeting, decided to punish the Class of 1903 for its part in the Dewey Day celebration by cutting off the fence orations only for this year. The custom was not abolished. <i> & > wey Sophomore Wigwam Banquet. The annual banquet of the Sophomore Wigwam was held Monday evening, June 4, at the Morris Cove Hotel. The Manila Freedom of April 27 says, under head of “Editor Ely”: Henry Stur- ges Ely, a Yale student and editor of the Yale Daily News, has arrived in Manila on a trip around the world. He came from New York by way of the Suez Canal and leaves for San Francisco during this week. Mr. Ely took the trip on account of his health and decided to take a year off and encircle the globe. His health is greatly improved.” ><>» Rev. Dr. A. J. Behrends., the Rev. Dr. A, J. F. Behrends: pastor of the Central Congregational Church of Brooklyn, N. Y., died of Bright’s disease complicated with heart trouble, Tuesday, May 22, at his home in Brooklyn, aged sixty-one years. He was the Lyman Beecher lecturer in the Divinity School in 1890, and in the same year Yale gave him the degree of Doc- tor of Sacred Theology. ><> oo we, New England Tri-collegiate Meet, The second annual track athletic meet of the New England Tricollegiate Association was held at Amherst on Friday, June 1, and was won by Williams. The score by points was: Williams 6254; Amherst 4714; Wes- leyan 2424. The best individual work was done by Bray of Williams, who won the half, mile and two-miles runs, lower- ing the tri-collegiate records held by himself in each of the three events.
