The issue of .Scribner’s for July, which will be out on the 25th of this month, is of particular interest to Yale men on account of an article by Judge Henry E. Howland, ’54, on Yale gradu- ate life. Judge Howland writes of the past and of the present. The article is not historical, but is a picture of Yale students, past' and present, including such descriptions and such scenes as an old-fashioned foot ball rush on the Green, aS well as modern . athletic events of great interest. Class Bullies are described of the old days and there is also a pen picture of ‘‘Senior Base- Bie or. Tatt’s ball.’”’ Naturally enough, the society system is. treated at considerable length, Particular stress. has been laid on illustrations, and some have been tak- en from life by artists who lived here _ time . For this number Orson Lowell has made twenty drawings of such scenes. One of them is a foot ball rush in 1850. The typical crew in Yale rowing is also illustrated and there is a scene during the Yale-Princeton game, These drawings for the entire series on Yale, Harvard and Princeton are to Paris, France, by Mr. Arthur P._ be shown in the Gymnasium from the Lord. 21st to the 30th of this month. FLAGG. RITCH GIBSON. Te DWIGHT, POTWIN. POTTER, . BUFFETT, HOWLAND. JUDGE HOWLAND’S CREW. LiFe AbSYALE. By Judge Henry KE, Howland, 254. Seetememeel ‘¢TirE AT Yate,” by Judge Henry E. Howland, ’04, is to be the leading article in Scribner's Magazine for July. He tells of the life and customs of Yale students past and present from the point of view of one who had a very good time in his own college days and who has kept in close touch with undergraduate affairs ever since. The illustrations are not stock photo- graphs. Most of them are drawings made from life by Orson Lowell, who lived part of last year at New Haven for the purpose. The originals of these and of the Harvard and Princeton drawings are on exhibition in the gymnasium. The Yale number will be ready June 25th. One of the Yale posters will be given with each copy of the July number sold in New Haven. Manhattan Trust Company CAPITAL, $1,000,000. Corner of Wall and Nassau Streets.
