volume of sketches entitled Reminis-
cences.
"46—John B. Talcott is President of
the American Hoisery Co., New Britain,
Conn., and his son, George S. Talcott,
‘OI, is now Treasurer of the same com-
pany.
'47—John D. Smith is traveling in
Europe.
*52—Daniel C. Gilman has been ap-
pointed a member of the Baltimore
School Board.
"53—E. C. Stedman has been elected
Vice-President of the New England
Society of New York.
*56—Charles T. Catlin has removed
to the St. George Hotel, Brooklyn, in
consequence of a fire which a few days
ago damaged his residence at No. 48
First Place, where he has resided for
over thirty years. He does not intend
to return to his old home.
°57—Professor Robert Brown of ties
Yale Observatory was knocked down by
a car on Forty-Second Street, New
York, February 15. He is now at the
St. Luke’s Hospital, and is getting along
as well as could be expected. His in-
juries, though not dangerous, will prob-
ably prove severe enough to prevent. his
returning to New Haven for some
weeks.
°62—Daniel H. Chamberlain read a
paper before the Quaboag Historical
Society, at New Braintree, Mass., Sep-
tember 12, 1899, and before The Wor-
cester Society of Antiquity, at Worces-
ter, Mass., November 14, 1899, on
“Wheeler's Surprise, 1675: Where?”
This paper is an examination and discus-
cussion of a much mooted historical
point in the early settlement of the ori-
ginal town of Brookfield, Mass., the
site or location of Captain Wheeler’s
Surprise and Defeat by the Indians in
the Quaboag district in 1675, during the
progress of King Philip’s War.
’65—Professor Charles H. Smith read
a paper entitled “Stephen Decatur, the
Dewey of the Old Navy,” at the regular
monthly meeting of the New Haven
Colony Historical Society, held Monday
evening, February 109.

an illustrated article in the New England
Magazine for February, entitled ‘The
Smith Charities.”

strator of Anatomy at University of
Pennsylvania, delivered an address Feb-
ruary 17, before the Philadelphia Alumni
Society of the Medical Department of
the University of Pennsylvania. His
subject was “The Briton and The Boer,
Reminiscences of South Africa,” with
lantern slide illustrations.

cently given up his position as Post-
master of South Norwalk and has re-
sumed the practice of medicine.

Director of the Sheffield Scientific
School, who is sick with typhoid fever,
is improving, and the crisis is now be-
lieved to be past.
'76—William L. Hodgman has been
elected President of the Agawan Hunt
Golf Club of Providence, Rhode Island.
'77--Arthur Reed Kimball has a
biographical sketch of Judge William H.
Taft, ’78, in the current number of the
Independent.

President of the Oregon Hop Growers’

published a new poem of William Trum-
bull, called “The Invincible Armada.”
’85—D. A. A. Crane of Waterbury,
Conn., is to take a three months’ trip
abroad in the near future. The greater
part of his stay is to be devoted to the
study of medicine in Berlin.
87 Hon.—Rev. John Brown, D.D.,
LL.D., has published, under the title
“Puritan Preaching in New England,”
the lectures delivered by him in the Ly-
man Beecher course during October,
1899.

charge of the department of physical

ceived a position in the Actuarial De-
partment of the Travelers’ Insurance

of the Ninety-Eight Baseball Nine, who
has been sick with appendicitis in New
York, is satisfactorily recovering.

B. Sands of 322 Commonwealth Avenue,

- vard Freshman Basketball team.
’99—G. S. Oliver of Pittsburg, Pa.,
has recently accepted a position in the
Carnegie Steel Co. in that city.
’99—Clay E. Jordan sailed Wednes-
day, February 21, for England. After
a short stay in England he will go to
Paris to stay through the Exposition.
°990—Howard C. Robbins has been ob-
liged by ill health to give up for a year
his study of Theology. He is at Green-
field, Mass., for the present, and is plan-
ing, if his health permits, to go abroad
in the Summer.
’99—The marriage of Miss Regina
Lunt of Colorado Springs, to Clarence
Phelps Dodge, took place at the bride’s
home, January 1. Guy Dodge,
ex-’96, was best man and Robert Dar-
ling, ’99, and Herbert M. Morgan, ’99,
were among the ushers. Mr. and Mrs.
Dodge have gone abroad on their wed-
ding trip. Herbert M. Morgan, Yale
99, is with the Brown Shoe Co., of St.
Louis, Mo.
