Stedman has been elected Vice-President of the New England Society of New York. *56—Charles T. Catlin has removed to the St. George Hotel, Brooklyn, in consequence of a fire which a few days ago damaged his residence at No. 48 First Place, where he has resided for over thirty years. He does not intend to return to his old home. °57—Professor Robert Brown of ties Yale Observatory was knocked down by a car on Forty-Second Street, New York, February 15. He is now at the St. Luke’s Hospital, and is getting along as well as could be expected. His in- juries, though not dangerous, will prob- ably prove severe enough to prevent. his returning to New Haven for some weeks. °62—Daniel H. Chamberlain read a paper before the Quaboag Historical Society, at New Braintree, Mass., Sep- tember 12, 1899, and before The Wor- cester Society of Antiquity, at Worces- ter, Mass., November 14, 1899, on “Wheeler's Surprise, 1675: Where?” This paper is an examination and discus- cussion of a much mooted historical point in the early settlement of the ori- ginal town of Brookfield, Mass., the site or location of Captain Wheeler’s Surprise and Defeat by the Indians in the Quaboag district in 1675, during the progress of King Philip’s War. ’65—Professor Charles H. Smith read a paper entitled “Stephen Decatur, the Dewey of the Old Navy,” at the regular monthly meeting of the New Haven Colony Historical Society, held Monday evening, February 109. ’67-—-Professor Charles S. Walker has an illustrated article in the New England Magazine for February, entitled ‘The Smith Charities.” *72—George P. Sawyer Europe, February 16. ’*72—Dr. Edmund W. Holmes, Demon- strator of Anatomy at University of Pennsylvania, delivered an address Feb- ruary 17, before the Philadelphia Alumni Society of the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania. His subject was “The Briton and The Boer, Reminiscences of South Africa,” with lantern slide illustrations. *74—Rev. Hollis B. Frissell addressed the students of Phillips. He expects to return about the first of May. °83—The Springfield Republican has published a new poem of William Trum- bull, called “The Invincible Armada.” ’85—D. A. A. Crane of Waterbury, Conn., is to take a three months’ trip abroad in the near future. The greater part of his stay is to be devoted to the study of medicine in Berlin. 87 Hon.—Rev. John Brown, D.D., LL.D., has published, under the title “Puritan Preaching in New England,” the lectures delivered by him in the Ly- man Beecher course during October, 1899. ’°88—Bernard C. He is at Green- field, Mass., for the present, and is plan- ing, if his health permits, to go abroad in the Summer. ’99—The marriage of Miss Regina Lunt of Colorado Springs, to Clarence Phelps Dodge, took place at the bride’s home, January 1. Guy Dodge, ex-’96, was best man and Robert Dar- ling, ’99, and Herbert M. Morgan, ’99, were among the ushers. Mr. and Mrs. Dodge have gone abroad on their wed- ding trip. Herbert M.
