Enlisted as Fireman, First-class; rated
Machinist, Second-class, Aug. 1; Ma-
chinist, First-class, in September. De-
tailed to patrol mines in New Haven
Harbor, May 12, 1898, as Fireman on
launch and yacht Sparta. After en-
listment sent to the U. S. S. Minnesota
at Boston, then to U. S. S. New Hamp-
shire, and from there to U. S. 5. Kana-
wha. On Cuban station under Com-
modore Watson, the Kanawha served
as a despatch boat. Held Port Gibara
on the northwest coast of Cuba for two
weeks in August, relieving the U. 5. 5. -
Nashville. Cruised around Porto Rico,
carrying despatches and mail. Ordered
home the latter part of September.
Touched at Port Royal and Newport
News. Arrived in New York Oct. 4.

typhoid* fever from Sept. 7, 1898, until
Nov. 1. In connection with Battery C,
was on the Signal Corps. Mustered
out of the United States service Nov.
29, 1808, although dated Oct. 31, the
day of muster-out of organization.
Previous to the war was a member
of Second Section, Brigade Signal
Corps, and Company H, Second Regi-
ment, C. N. G., for a short time.

to the Commissary Department June 4,
and continued in that service until
Sept. 27, when relieved by reason of re-
moyal of subsistence department from
post. Was then furloughed for balance
of the thirty days. During latter part
of his furlough, was taken ill with
malarial rheumatism, and on Oct. 20,
was sent to New Haven Hospital,
where he remained till Dec. 10, 1808.
His discharge was made out and dated
Dec. 8, 1808, though it stated that he
was mustered out Oct. 25. Mustered
out of service at New Haven Oct. 25,
1808.
George W. Dulany, Jr., ’908S., en-
listed in the Navy Feb. 25, 1808, with
the First Division, Connecticut Naval
Battalion, and was mustered into the
United States service June 15. Rated
as “able bodied seaman.” Was Acting
Quartermaster, Second-class. Was Act-
aing Chief Quartermaster of special de-
tail May 9 to May 21, on Monitor U.
S. 5. Wyandotte, New Haven to Bos-

from June 6 to June 15, then ordered

William Orville Hickok, IV, ’o8S.,
enlisted shortly before the war in Com-
pany D, Eighth Regiment, Pennsylvania
National Guard. Went into camp at
M+t. Gretna, Pa.,> with. Company D;
when the first call for volunteers was
issued. At Mt. Gretna he was trans-
ferred to Light Battery A, Pennsyl-
vania Volunteer Artillery. While Mr.
Hickok was ill with congestion of the
lungs, Battery A was mustered into ser-
vice and he lost his place. He then
communicated with Colonel Roosevelt
Ky., on account of his recent illness and
spent the three following weeks near
there on a stock farm recuperating,
again joining Battery A, which was
then guarding the ship yards at New-
port News, Va., the Rough Riders in
the meantime having sailed from Tampa
for Cuba. Sailed for Porto Rico Aug.
5, 1898, arriving there Aug. 10. —Sailed
from Porto Rico Sept. 3. Furloughed
at Philadelphia on Sept. 11, for sixty
days. Honorably discharged at Phila-
delphia Nov. 20, 1898. —
