et. Als MEINE. WER Ly TRACK TEAM CANDIDATES. Prospect for Distance Runs Bright— Work has Begun. The candidates for the Track Team were called out by Captain Perkins on Thursday, January 27th, and about one hundred and eighty men reported. In previous years there has been a greater number of candidates for the sprints than for any other events, but this year the mile and half-mile have by far the greatest number of candi- dates, and the prospects for a good showing in these events are brighter than for several years. The only events in which there is an actual lack of candidates are the shot-put and the hammer-throw, events where Yale has in former years been strong. The general system of training this year will be the same as last. The long distance men have been divided into squads and are running out-of- doors. The bicycle men are also running out-of-doors and will ride on the road as soon as the snow disap- pears. The other candidates will con- fine their training to indoor work until after the middle of March. The quar- ter-mile men have been in active train- ing for the relay team. The Yale open handicap games will be held in the Armory on the 12th of March and until this time there will be no good opportunity of judging the candidates in competition. The general policy is not to enter many men in outside games, but a few prom- ising men will be entered from time to time in the various open games. The regular Spring games will be held in the last of April. Following are the names of the can- didates for the various events: 100 and 220 yards:—H. H. Hackett, 1900; .H. A..-Webster, 1900.S.;.:T.
