The Yale Crews took their last row on the Harbor, Tuesday morning and left for New London by train Wednesday reaching Gales afternoon, time for a short practice. Thirty men were in the squad taken, including the regular Eight and Four, and a substitute, the Freshman substitute, and Eight and Four, and a four coxswains. Four eight-oared shells, two fours, two pair- oars and Gen. W. W. Skiddy’s naphtha launch were carried with the crews, the launch Yale having been sent ahead under her own steam. Prof. A. M. Wheeler, assisted by H. A. Farr, tutor in German in the College, will conduct the examinations at the Ferry. The last two weeks on the harbor gave the crews the best opportunity for Practice that they have had this Spring, the water being smooth enough to per- mit a great lower bridge. taken, one of w deal of rowing outside the Three time rows. were hich, made in slack water Ferry ~ in. with a bad ground swell in the last half mile, being somewhat under 21: 40, which is considered good. The Crew, as rowing to-day is: Bow, Mitchell: 2, Wickes; 3, Niedecken; 4, Brock; 5, Cross; 6, Allen; 7, Blagden; stroke, Cameron. This make-up is not a cer- tainty, however, as there are candidates for the positions of bow and four who may displace the men now rowing on those positions. As a general criticism of the work of the Crew it may be said that the boat, though having much power, is somewhat ragged inboard and outboard, and will need a good deal of coaching, particu- larly on blades and slides. Dr. Gallau- det and Capt. Allen will have entire charge of this work at New London. There is a feeling of confidence, among those who have carefully watched the work of the past few weeks, that the sharp corners will be rounded off within a fortnight, and that the Crew will worthily represent the University on the 28th. The Yale four is: Bow, Lincoln; 2, Auchincloss; 3, Kunzig; stroke, Wil- liams. The Freshman squad is as fol- lows: R. and K. Schley, Strong, Hewitt, Trumbull, C. R. Brown, C. Auchincloss, Bogue, Sargent, Kirtland, Goodwin, McClintock, Bristol; Coxswains, Bond and Lounsbury. RACE AND GAME TICKETS, How to Secure Yale-Harvard Seats at New Haven and New London.
