As an educator he became known
throughout the State and his advice and
counsel were often sought. The High
School building in Bristol was erected
through his efforts and the High School
course in its entirety established, with
full equipment for all college preparatory
work.
Mr. Jennings was married in 1882 to
Miss Elizabeth Namoi Newell, who died
in 1888. Three children were born to
this marriage and two are now living,
Newell Jennings and Joseph Jennings.
Roger S. Newell, ’89S., brother-in-
law of Mr. Jennings, is the surviving
partner in the law firm of Newell &
Jennings. Mr. Jennings was a member
of the University Club of New York,
the Colonial Club of Hartford and the
Country Club of Farmington.
JAMES PARSONS, 777 HON.
James Parsons, 777 Hon., died in
Philadelphia Friday,:March 23, aged 65
years. He was a graduate of Amherst
College, and for many years had been
Professor of Real and Property Law in
the University of Pennsylvania. Mr.
Parsons, in his lifetime, contributed
much to the literature of law, one of the
best known of his writings being, “The
Principles of Partnership.” Yale gave
him the degree of M.A. in 1877.
WILLIAM BRADBURY SPRING, EX-'825S.
William Bradbury Spring, ex-82S.,
died of pneumonia at Autofagasta, Chile,
September 17, 1898. He contracted the
disease on a trip into Bolivia, in the
rainy season, to attend to some mining
property. We
Mr. Spring was born January 5, 1860,
at Portland, Me., and was the son of
Andrew and Susan Bradbury. He en-
tered Yale from Andover, but in his
Junior year left college to take up his
father’s business at Buenos Ayres, South
America. Since that time he has lived
a portion of the time in Buenos Ayres
and the remainder in Boston. He was
married, September 27, 1804, to Miss
Anne Francis Condon, who survives
him. :

Maurice Fitch Hawks, 1903, of Buf-
falo, N. Y., the only son of Edward

appendicitis at the Yale Infirmary,
Thursday, March 29. He had been ill
only a few days, and his death was
caused by heart failure, which followed
the operation.
Mr. Hawks was born in Buffalo, De-
cember 4, 1880, and prepared for Yale
at the Central High School of that city,
and at Andover, where he spent one
year. He was a member of the Apollo
Banjo and Mandolin Club of Yale, and
Secretary of the Freshman Debating
Union.
A short funeral service was held in
Battell Chapel, Friday afternoon, the
Freshman Class attending in a _ body.
The honorary pall-bearers from the

At a meeting of the Class held in
Dwight Hall, Friday morning, a com-
mittee was appointed which drew up
the following set of resolutions:
“Whereas, God in His Infinite Wis-
dom, has seen fit to call to the Life
Eternal our beloved friend and class-
mate, Maurice Fitch Hawks, who was

so deeply endeared to us by his upright
manliness, and by his pure and earnest
character, be it
“Resolved, That we, his Classmates,
extend to his family our heartfelt sym-
pathy, joining with them in their grief
at the early termination of a life so
full of promise; and that we wear a
badge of mourning for thirty days, in
token of our affection and esteem for
him, whom God has taken; and be it
further
“Resolved, That a copy of these reso-
lutions be presented to his family and
printed in the Yale papers.”
