Nineteen Hundred L. S.
W. L. Bevins, 1900 L.S., enlisted July
9, 1898, in Company L, First Regiment,
Connecticut Volunteers. Ranked as
Sergeant. Stationed first at Fort Knox,
Me., from there going to Camp Haven,
Niantic, Conn., then to Camp Alger,
Falls Church, Va., and finally returning
to Camp Haven, Niantic. Shortly after
the peace protocol was signed and while
the regiment was still in Virginia, Col-
onel Burdette gave his men an oppor-
tunity to express their sentiments on
the question of returning home. Com-
pany L proved to be the only company
in the regiment which was not desirous
of going back, the ballot standing
ninety-one negatives and only eight af-
firmatives. Was taken ill with typhoid
malaria at Camp Haven, Niantic, Conn.,
Sept. 10, and sent to the Hartford Hos-
pital, from which he was discharged a
week later. Mustered out of service at
Hartford, Oct. 21, 1808.

listed May 4, 1898, in Light Battery A,
First Regiment Artillery, Connecticut
Volunteers. Went into camp at Camp
Haven, Niantic, Conn., May 7. Fur-
loughed for thirty days Sept. 16. Mus-
tered out of service at New Haven,

Frank A. O’Brien, i900 M.S., ° en-
listed May 4, 1808, in Light Battery A,
First Regiment Artillery, Connecticut
Volunteers. Went into camp at Camp
Haven, Niantic, Conn., May 7. Fur-
loughed for thirty days Sept. 16, 1808.
Mustered out of the service of the
United States at New Haven, Oct. 25,
1808.
Cyrus W. Field, 2d, 1900 M.S., was
assigned April 22, to the U. S. S, Na-
hant, third rate, from the First Naval
Battalion, N. ei Nt PS Promoted
April 28, 1898, from Bayman to Apothe-
cary. Had entire medical charge from
July 5, 1808, till Aug. 15. The Nahant
was stationed off Tompkinsville, S. I.,
from May 2 till Aug. 22. Was. dis-
charged from the Naval service of the
United States Aug. 15, 1808.
Previous to the war was a member of
the First Naval Battalion, N. G. N. Y.,
April 20, 1808.
E. F. Hamlin, 1900 M.S., enlisted in
the Connecticut Naval Militia June 3,
i808. Went into camp at Camp Haven,
Niantic, Conn., June 7. Was ordered to
Boston to the receiving ship Minne-
sota June 15. Upon being promoted
to Bayman was detailed to the Hospi-
tal Department, having full charge of
the department. Was promoted to
First-class Bayman, Acting Assistant
Surgeon with rating of Ensign; served
as such until Aug. 25. Honorably dis-
charged from the United States Navy

Nineteen Hundred One.
John D. Bogart, roor, enlisted June
21, 18098, in Light Battery A, First
Regiment Artillery, Connecticut Volun-
teers. Went into camp at Niantic,
Conn. Furloughed for thirty days Sept.
16, 1898. Mustered out of service at
New Haven, Oct. 25, 1808.
J. S. Eells, 1901, enlisted June 7, 1808,
in the First Division, Connecticut
Naval Battalion. Went to Camp Haven,
Niantic, Conn., June 7, 1808. June 15,
mustered into United States Auxiliary
Navy, and sent to Boston to receiving
ship U. S. S. Minnesota. Transferred
to the U. S. S. Yosemite at Norfolk,
Va., but peace was declared and he was
sent back to the Charlestown Navy
Yard, Boston. Honorably discharged
from the United States service Aug. 25,
1808.
William H. Hutchins, ro9o1, enlisted
June 23, 1898, in Battery A, First Regi-
ment Artillery, Connecticut Volunteers.
Went into camn at Camp Haven, Nian-
tic, Conn. Was furloughed for thirty
days Sept. 16. Mustered out of service
at New Haven, Conn., Oct., 25, 1808.
Reuben H. Morley, toot, enlisted May
17, 1898, in Company K, First Regi- -
ment, Connecticut Volunteers. Was
encamped at Niantic, Conn., and later

near Fort Preble, Me. He was trans-
ferred from the First Connecticut to
Company K, Thirty-Second Regiment,
Michigan Volunteers. Was encamped
at Tampa, Fla.; ~: Fernandina, *Fia,;
Huntsville, Fla., and Island Lake,
Mich., where the regiment was fur-
loughed. Mustered out of service at
Detroit, Mich., Nov. 12, 1898.
R. R. Richardson, 1901, enlisted May
17, 1898, in Company C, First Regi-
ment, Connecticut Volunteers. Went
into camp at Camp Haven, Niantic,
Conn. Went to Portland, Me., May
22, on coast defense. Went to Camp
Alger, Falls Church, Va., July 16; left
Camp Alger Sept. 5, for Niantic, Conn.
Furloughed for thirty days Sept. 22.
Mustered out of the service of the
United States at Hartford; Conn., on
Nov. 1, 1808.
Incompiete Records,
Charles H. Hall, ’94, enlisted in the
New York Naval Militia. Appointed
Ensign on the monitor Jason. With
the Brooklyn Battalion he was aboard.
the monitor Jason for a time off Fisher’s
Island. When the monitor returned to
League Island Navy Yard, he was
ordered home.
Sanford H. Wadhams,° ’94S. and
’°96 M.S., served as Acting Assistant
Surgeon, U. S. A. Was on duty for
a time at Montauk Point and later in
Porto Rico.
William D. Mitchell, ex-’94S., en-
listed in Company B, Fifteenth Minne-
sota Volunteers. He was commissioned
a Second Lieutenant July 2, 18908. Ap-
pointed Judge Advocate of his regiment.
J. B. Hone, ’95, volunteered in April,
1808, with Battery A, Massachusetts
Light Artillery, but the organization
was never mustered into the United
States service.
Theodore W. Griggs, ’95 S., enlisted
in Company L, Fifteenth Minnesota
Volunteers. He was commissioned
First Lieutenant July 2, 1808. Went
into camp at Camp Ramsey and Camp

Snelling. Was on detached service as
Acting Brigade Quartermaster on Gen-
eral Gobin’s staff. Later went into
camp at Camp Meade, Middletown, Pa.
_ Harry W. Griffith, ’97'L.S., enlisted
in the Twenty-Seven Regiment Artil-
lery, Indiana Volunteers. Went into
camp at Chickamauga Park, Ga.
C. R. Lloyd, ’99S., enlisted May 4,
1898 in Battery A, First Regiment
Artillery, Connecticut Volunteers.
Went into camp at Camp Haven,
Niantic, Conn., May 7, 1898. About
July 9, he was appointed a Second
Lieutenant in the regular army and was
assigned to Battery I, Sixth United
States Artillery. Stationed at Fortress
Monroe, Va. Transferred to another
regiment on April 6 and sailed for
- Manilla about April 16.
Arthur W. Powell, ’99 L.S., enlisted
with Tenth Pennsylvania Regiment and
went with that Regiment to Manila.
Was wounded twice in engagements
with the insurgents.
C. B. Hawkins, 1900, mustered in
May 17, 1808 in Company F, First Regi-
ment, Connecticut Volunteers. Went
with the regiment to Maine and Camp
Alger.
The Late Loten A. Dinsmoor, ex~’94.
Loten A. Dinsmoor, ex-’94, was a third
sergeant Co. I, Sixteenth Pennsylvania
Infantry, in which he did good work and
became very proficient. When the war
broke out his regiment was ordered to
Mount Gretna, Pa., where they were en-
camped till April 27. 1898. After being
mustered into the service and aftera stay at
Chickamaugua, the regiment was ordered
to Porto Rico. It arrived at Ponce, Aug.
31. At the engagement at Coamo Aug. 9,
1898, Sargeant Dinsmoor conducted him-
self bravely and creditably.. He was taken
sick with typhoid fever about Aug. 28, and
died of that disease Sept. 22, 1898. By a
general order of the Secretary of War, his
remains were exhumed at Porto Rico and
removed at the government’s expense to
his home at Warren, Pa.
