G. Barrett Rich, Jr., ’97S., was mus-
tered into the United States service as
First Lieutenant in the Sixty-Fifth
Regiment, New York Volunteer In-
fantry, May 17, 1898, at Camp Black,
Hempstead, L. I. On May 19, the regi-
ment was ordered to Camp Alger, Falls
Church, Va., where it remained_ till
Sept. 4, when it was ordered to Buffalo,
and furloughed for thirty days. Was
mustered out of the service of the
United States with his regiment, Nov.
19, 1808.
Previous to the outbreak of war,
Lieutenant Rich was Captain of the
Sheffield Military Company during his
Senior year at Yale, and had been a
First Lieutenant for one year in the
Sixty-Fifth Regiment, N. G. N. Y.
Edward W. Davies, ex-’97S., en-
listed May 4, 1898, in the First Ohio Vol-
unteer Cavalry. Mustered into service
at Camp Bushnell, Columbus, Ohio.
Went to Camp George H. Thomas,
Chickamauga Park, Ga., and to Lake-
land, Fla.

George Foster Sanford, ’97 L.S., en-
listed May 4, 1898, in Light Battery A,
First Regiment Artillery, Connecticut
Volunteers. Went into camp at Camp
Haven, Niantic, Conn., May 4. Ap-
pointed Corporal May 13. Commis-
sioned Second Lieutenant in Company
E, Third Connecticut Volunteers, Oct.
10, and made Aide-de-camp on General
Waite’s staff, . headquarters, Second
Brigade, First Division, Second Army
Corps, Dec. 19. The Third Connecti-
cut was encamped at Camp Meade, Pa.,
Camp Marion, Summerville, S. C., and
Camp Onward, Savannah, Ga. Was
Acting Assistant Adjutant-General of
said Brigade from Feb. 9 to Feb. 24,
upon which day the Brigade was broken
up. Mustered out of the service of the
United States March 20, 1899, at Camp
Onward.
Ninety-Eight.
W. W. Andrews, ’08, enlisted early in
May, 1898, in Troop B, First Regiment,
Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. About the last
of May was promoted to Second Cor-
poral. Resigned this position volun-
tarily early in July. The regiment (8
troops only) camped at Columbus, O.,
Chickamauga Park, Lakeland, Fla., and
Huntsville, Ala. Received honorable
discharge from War Department (spe-
cial paper) on account of ill health,
about July 25, 1808.

First Regiment, Connecticut Artillery.
Went to Camp Haven, Niantic, Conn.,

N. H. Cowdrey, ’98, enlisted May 4,
1808, in Battery A, First Regiment Ar-

into camp at Niantic, Conn., May 4.

1898. Mustered out of service at New
Haven, Oct. 25, 1808.
C. C. Jones, ’98, enlisted May 4, 1808,
in Battery A, First Regiment Artillery,
Connecticut Volunteers, and was ap-
pointed a Corporal the same _ day.
Went into camp at Camp Haven, Nian-
tic, Conn., May 7. Furloughed for
thirty days Sept. 17. Mustered out of
service at New Haven, Oct. 25; 1868;
Frederick Kernochan, ’98,
about June 20, 1808, in Battery A, Penn-
sylvania Volunteers. Encamped at
Newport News, Va., to guard the un-
finished battleships. Sailed for Porto
Rico Aug. 4. Disembarked at Ponce
Aug. 12, after waiting outside the har-
bor aground on a sand bar for three
days. While in Porto Rico, he was de-
tached as Special Orderly with James
W. Wadsworth to the latter’s father,
who was attached to General: Miles’
staff as Civilian Aide. Sailed: for
home Sept. 2, landing at Jersey City
Sept. Io.
for sixty days. Honorably discharged
from the service of the United States
Nov. 19, 1808. :
A. C. Ledyard, ’98,' enlisted Miay 4,
1808, in Battery A, First Regiment Ar-
tillery, Connecticut Volunteers. Went
into camp at Camp Haven,’ Niantic,
Conn., May 7. He was appointed a
Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army
in June, 1898. He received his commis-
sion July 22, and at the same time was
assigned to the staff of General Miles.
Sailed for Porto’ Rico- July 23. .-On
return from Porto Rico was assigned
to Co. I, Second’ Infantry and” en-
camped at Camp Shipp, Anniston, Ga.
Was transferred to Twelfth Infantry and
joined his regiment at Manila in March.
S. A. Marshall, ’98, enlisted May 4,
1898, in Light Battery A, First Regi-
ment Artillery, Connecticut Volunteers.
Went into camp at Camp Haven, Nian-
tic,. Conn.,. May .4. Furloughed for
thirty days Sept. 16. Mustered out of
service at New Haven, Oct. 25, 1808.
Previous to the recent war had been
a member of the Yale Senior Military
Company. |
G. D. Montgomery, 798, enlisted
about June 18, 1808, in Light Battery
A, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and re-
mained with that organization guarding
the ship yard at Newport News, Va.,
until date of commission. Commis-
sioned-a Naval Cadet July 22, and or-
dered to join the U. S. S. Cincinnati at
Key West, Fla. Not finding her there,
he went on the Mayflower to Guan-
tanamo Bay, then on the Newark for
about a week, during which period she
remained in the Bay: then on the Yan-
kee half way to Porto Rico. Finally
arrived at Porto Rico on the Frolic and
joined the Cincinnati off Cape San Juan,
about Aug. 9. Present at the engage-
ment at Fajardo, Porto Rico, Aug. 9.
After hostilities were declared  sus-
pended, the Cincinnati went to St.
Thomas, Danish West Indies, to re-
cuperate and get fresh provisions. Re-
turned to San Juan in about two weeks
and lay in the harbor on duty with the
evacuation commission. He was or-
dered home about the middle of Octo-
ber and did sea duty aboard the Supply.
