to join the Battery.- In order to hear
from these men, it is probable that the
recruiting will continue for two or three
days longer.
The receipt of the Battery’s equip-
ment, and the special attention that is
being given to it by State and National
authorities, and the beginning of very
serious and effective drill under the
superintendence of army officers, have
reawakened the old enthusiasm to join
this unusually fine collection of young
fighters.
Should any Yale graduates who see
this notice desire to enlist, they are
advised to communicate with one of the
officers named above, at the recruiting
station, 1018. Chapel street. Should
they fail to make connections there,
they can send their communications to
this office and they will be forwarded
as speedily as possible. A great deal
of haste must be used, as the time is
short and the number of vacancies is
diminishing fast every day. ©

The Price That Was Paid.
High in a crevice of the cliff
That bounds the brimming ocean,
A violet blows, and. bends and knows
The end of its devotion.
Long time the waves had tossed its
seed,
From some beach-garden plundered, °
Till rose the deep, and heap on heap
Its mighty surges thundered.
And _ while
crashed
Against the basalt towers,
Sea knew its need and flung the seed
Where now the violet flowers.
So, to the working of His will
The sea was- tempest-riven,
And ships were tossed and men were
ost—
But still the flower was given.
